The power of manifesting & positivity in intuitive eating and body confidence

Today I am bringing you some energy – a positive pep talk.

What do you want for your life? What do you want your life to look like? What do you want it to look like around food? And what do you want your body image to be? How good do you want these things to feel?

Positivity and gratitude and manifesting are so powerful when you combine them with intuitive eating and body confidence work. They can have such an impact on how you feel about your body, and your relationship with food.

Before you dive in, I should let you know that you can listen to the episode of the podcast that is all about manifesting and positivity in intuitive eating and body confidence below. If you like it, you can find more episodes on the podcast page.

It's all about the energy

Manifesting is all about the energy you bring to your life. A lot of people think that manifesting is simply putting thoughts out there and that attracts the life that you have. To a degree it is, but that’s not the be all and end all.

Many people think that manifesting means you attract everything that happens to you, positive and negative, but that is not quite right. You can’t just put thoughts out there and the universe creates whatever you’re thinking about. That’s not the way it works.

The actual definition of manifesting is to make things happen through your actions. So when we talk about manifesting, we’re talking about putting the energy and thoughts out, and taking the steps to make things happen.

So, using manifestation, you can create a positive life and an intuitive eating life through energy and action.

Think of it this way, if you believe that you can have a positive, freer life around food and with your body, then you are more likely to make that happen because you will actively take more positive steps towards making that happen.

If you believe that you can’t have a better life around food around your body, then naturally by those beliefs you will not take the positive steps,  and you will stay in a more negative space, controlled by your thoughts and feelings.

Today, make that choice. No matter how badly you feel about your body, no matter how horrible your relationship with food is at the moment, make the choice today to start taking steps to make it better.

Dare to dream! If you did not have the capability to make your wildest wishes come true, your mind would not have the capacity to conjure such ideas in the first place. There is no limitation on what you can potentially achieve, except for the limitation you choose to impose on your own imagination. What you believe to be possible will always come to pass - to the extent that you deem it possible. It really is as simple as that.

Manifesting and intuitive eating

Intuitive eating is a way of being more in tune with your body and eating in a more natural, intuitive way. That’s very much an inside job, so maybe it feels a little disconnected maybe to now be looking outside of ourselves and trying to relate it to the other universal energies.

It’s not really outside of ourselves this energy and the universe, though. It has to start inside.

My Eat From Within system is all about taking three steps towards making a situation easier around food or your body – eating with your mind, your body, and your heart. This is very much a part of how I consider manifesting to be too.

You’re going to think about food in your body logically with your head (that’s the Mind part), and you are are going to listen to what our body wants and what it’s saying it needs at any given time (the Body part), but there’s a big part of intuitive eating that is making sure that you are satisfied and happy too (the Heart part).

In body positivity work we talk about making sure that you feel kindness and compassion towards yourself, making sure that your soul is satisfied and happy, which heavily links into manifesting.

The gratitude, the energy. It’s all about making sure that your soul is happy.

So intuitive eating and the universe, the intuition inside us and the energy outside of us, are so intrinsically linked that manifesting can only help to reinforce the intuitive eating and body confidence work that you are doing.

Gratitude

Start by appreciating things around you. Everything from the big and obvious to the very small and apparently insignificant.

Maybe you are wearing a piece of jewellery that was bought for you as a gift, and on the table sits a vase of flowers picked from the garden. Two polar opposites in monetary value, but you can be equally as grateful for both of those things because they make you happy. They bring the right energy into your life.

Take a look around you now. What have you got around you that makes you happy?

It might be a book that you’re reading. It might be the candles that you light in the evening. It doesn’t matter what it is, if it brings you the right  energy.

Once you have worked on seeing the good things around you that aren’t food or body related, you can then move that same consideration to food.

What food makes you happy? What food makes you feel really good about eating it? What food looks great on the plate and you just can’t wait to dive in?

We can’t always cook up a fancy dinner that looks incredible on our plate, sometimes it’s going to be a quick sandwich or a bowl of cereal, but if you can regularly have food in your life that makes you feel good then that’s bringing the right energy into your food.

Then bring that to your body too. How do you feel about your body?

Maybe you feel less than positive right now, so start by simply being a little grateful for some of the things your body can do.

You don’t have to love it, you don’t even have to like it, just start with some gratitude.

Could you be grateful for your hands and the way it feels to hold your partner’s hands? Do you like the way your shoulders look in a certain style of top? Maybe you are lucky enough to have fully functioning legs that carry you around all day.

Whatever you choose, it doesn’t have to be anything profound or special. You don’t have to like the way the body part looks. You can simply express gratitude for it and the way you’re able to function in life because of it.

Limiting beliefs

We have so many limiting beliefs about our bodies.

We believe that we have to change before we can do things. To become thinner or fitter or ‘healthier’. But on the whole, that’s not true.

You do not have to be thinner to be able to go out and socialise with your friends. You do not have to be slimmer, thinner, lighter, a different shape, or a different size to do the majority of the activities that you want to do.

There might be limitations, yes, but there’s limitations in life everywhere, and on the whole you can probably do most of the things you want to do.

Your limiting beliefs bring down your confidence, but they are message that have been over and over to you for a long, long time. It’s no wonder that we believe it when it’s constantly put to us that we’re not good enough.

These are beliefs that you can change. Change your beliefs, not your body.

The positivity that you’re looking for is going to challenge those limiting beliefs, and once you start being positive in your thinking, the way you see life becomes oh so different.

Get out of your own way

If you tell yourself that you’re going to go out and have a great time with your friends, then you almost certainly will.

If you tell yourself you’re going to go out and have a miserable time, then that’s probably what’s going to happen.

So get positive about the way you approach life. Go at it head first. Get out of your own way. Do not change your body to suit. Don’t wait until you’re thinner or lighter or slimmer or a different shape. Have a great life now.

Imagine yourself having a terrible evening, sat in the corner of the room alone, not joining in. It feels very claustrophobic to me. It feels contained, small, dark, constricted. How does that feel to you?

Now change that thought.

Imagine yourself going out, having a great time with your friends, not a care in the world about your body, enjoying some good music, good food, having the best fun. How does that feel to you?

To me, that feels free, like there are no constraints, like there are no rules. It feels lighter and so positive.

This is the same situation, but with two different approaches. The positive approach always feels better. It feels better inside. It feels better intuitively. It feels better energetically. It feels good.

Positivity around food

You can take this new approach with food too. Be more positive about the food that you put on your plate. Be more positive about actually making that food. Be more positive about eating the food.

You can either approach your next meal as something you have to eat because you have to eat, or you can approach it feeling excited to create the food that you’re going to eat. Even if that is just making a sandwich, you can still be really positive about it.

This new positive action that you’re taking towards creating this better life for yourself is about habit building. At the beginning maybe it feels a little bit strange if you’re trying to be super positive about things all the time. I know that can feel a bit unnatural.

But once you get into the habit of doing that, it becomes a more natural thing to be positive, and to see the good things around you, and the goodness in yourself and the food that you’re eating.

Affirmations

I truly love affirmations. Affirmations are statements that you can read, say, and repeat, and they help to reinforce the way that you feel about something, which in turn helps to create the life that you want to lead.

As an example of a body positive and intuitive eating affirmation, you might say, ‘I have trust that my body will tell me what it needs to nourish itself each day’.

You’ll notice that I said, ‘I have trust in my body’.

Not, ‘one day I might trust my body’. I said, ‘I have trust in my body’.

You have to write and say an affirmation like you mean it, like it’s happening, like it’s a reality. Because remember, you’re creating that life, you are talking positively about that life, and saying it as if it’s now makes it more real.

It’s not something in the future. We’re being positive now! We’re starting now, we’re being grateful now.

By using affirmations, you create trust in your body, and in your ability to eat more freely. You trust in your intuition more. You give yourself kindness and compassion.

Affirmations are about reinforcing what you want for your life, and being kind and compassionate at the same time. They are super powerful, and a great way to start thinking positively about yourself.

I give my Eat From Within members a new set of affirmations each month. They are building quite a catalogue of these affirmations to pick and choose from. It’s another weapon in the arsenal against dieting, helping them to be more positive and more grateful and manifest this more positive life. Click here to take one of those sheets for yourself.

Embody your affirmations

Be that person. Live your life as if you have no care in the world around your body. Live your life as if you have no food issues.

Start living the life that you want to live. It’s there. It’s yours for the taking. You can have that life right now.

You know that old saying, fake it till you make it? That’s what we’re doing here. You’re going to start telling people, you’re going to start showing people, you’re going to tell yourself, that this is the life that you were meant to be living.

People around you will do what they do, but positivity breeds positivity. No one has the right to take that from you. Some people are energy sponges and will drain you if you allow it. Protect your energy. Make sure you give yourself the space away from negative people.

Keep that vibe up. Be positive about yourself. You are an incredible human being, you are valuable, and your life is worth its place in this world.

Put it out there. You are incredible. You are awesome. You do have a place. You are valuable and worthy, and you bring something unique to the world that nobody else brings.

Finally, relax and go with the flow. The universe really has got you. Put those good vibes out, put that good feeling out, put the good energy out, and then let the universe support that.
